A sky remembered
through iron.

This painting began with a thin wash of red earth, left to dry in the winter studio. Subsequent layers were rubbed back until the linen’s small interruptions became part of the image.

The dark horizontal bar is not a horizon, but the record of a board used to press the surface flat.
